What other benefits did you gain?

I enjoyed working out. Before I used to drag myself, now I look forward to working out. And I can run about 8km now without getting tired or without stopping or not having to walk.

1)Significant caloric expenditure- approximately 5-9 kcal/minute, however, this number increases significantly when exercisers also perform aerobic intervals like in the 360 circuit.

2)Greater cardiovascular endurance-Numerous studies report that when performed consistently over 8-12 weeks, circuit training can increase aerobic oxygen consumption and VO2 max, resulting in greater stamina and overall fitness.

3)Increased muscular endurance and strength-Resistance training overloads muscles for improved endurance and strength. Studies indicate that strength gains of 7% to 32% are evident with circuit training. Strength training is particularly iimportant for women, who lose muscle mass of 1 percent per year in their 30s and 40s, along with people over age 65 to help minimize bone loss.

4)Improved body composition and higher metabolism-decreases fat mass, and increases lean body mass and builds muscles that burn more calories both during exercise and at rest (basal metabolic rate) for a higher metabolism.

5)Eliminated plateau- circuit training delivers continually varied cardio and strength training challenges that work the body in new ways and stimulate additional progress and better results.

6)Maximum efficiency-a greater return on the time investment, with more total work completed in a shorter amount of time. In fact, research shows that circuit training recruits the major muscle groups up to twice more than cycling and five times more than walking.

7)Renewed motivation-circuit training breaks up monotonous exercise routines and gives exercisers greater enjoyment which positively impacts exercise performance and overall adherence.

8)Valuable variety-Circuit training is an excellent way to cross train, as it complements all other workouts

9)Equal accommodation-easily customized to suit beginners to elite athletes, so that each can reap rewards and achieve goals.

Did you know that 25% of people who sign up for the gym start dropping out within their first 6 to 8 weeks? To top it all off, this number goes up to 52% after 6 months. Only around 35% of people who begin to exercise at the gym really stay for 9 months or more. So why do so many people leave? Well, most of these dropouts attribute their loss of interest to exercise to several reasons (some of which you may have heard or experienced on more than one occasion).

First, there’s boredom. The decision to start exercising and get fit almost always starts off on the right foot. There’s the willingness to try out new things and the determination to push the body further. However, daily long runs on the treadmill and lifting of various weights within the 4 walls of your gym can become tiresome and routinary. What’s more, if you’re doing it alone, the difficulty increases as the mind convincingly tells the body it’s too lazy to get moving. Motivation falls short and before you know it, you’ve completely forgotten to exercise.

Second, people’s busy schedules make it difficult to find time to hit the gyms. 10 minutes to warm up. 30 minutes on the treadmill. 30 minutes doing weights. 15 minutes on the bike. 15 minutes to stretch and cool down. Let’s face it, spending time at the gym does exactly that—eat up your time. People can barely squeeze in a proper meal during their lunch breaks so how much more finding additional time for a simple work out?

And finally, the impatience to achieve results within a short time (and not succeeding) leave some people discouraged and frustrated. Eventually, they just stop altogether, often wishing that there was some other quick fix they could avail of.

Well, what if there was a particular fitness center that was diverse enough to keep you constantly engaged, challenged and inspired, all the while requiring only 30 minutes a day still guaranteeing results? As the country’s first co-ed express fitness facility, 360 Fitness Club proves to be more than just your traditional gym. Their exercise philosophy revolves on providing people with fitness opportunities that are non-traditional, efficient and most importantly, effective. With the use of free weights, kettle bells, cables, exercise balls and many other exercise accessories, the club developed the 360 Circuit, which consists of 20 exercise stations that combine cardiovascular and strengthening exercises – a total body workout that will make members, tone, shape up and burn an average of 500 calories in a total of just 30 minutes each day.

“We understand how difficult it can be for some to exercise regularly so we’ve developed various ways to keep our customers engaged to be fit”, shares 360 Fitness Club Head Coach and fitness expert Christopher Callanta. “For as quick as only half an hour, we provide you a total body workout that’s practically equivalent to an hour’s exercise in a traditional gym setting.”

Members of 360 Fitness who complete the circuit claim to have improved balance and performance in their daily activities. And thanks to the club’s other programs like the Jungle Gym Suspension Training classes, participants find their strength and flexibility improving dramatically after just a few classes. “We offer numerous exercises in a Jungle Gym Suspension Training class, where one simply has to adjust their body position to adjust the resistance and intensity of the exercise”, shares Christopher, “It can be a bit of a challenge at first but the results and the feeling you get after attending a class are amazing!”

“Traditional gym workouts take longer because they usually use machines and work out only one muscle group at a time while our suspension training classes, just like our circuit, work out the entire body in one session,” Managing Director Joana Piñon adds. To keep their members constantly motivated, 360 Fitness Club also offers a wide range of group exercise classes. “We believe that variety keeps people from getting bored so we’ve introduced several classes that you won’t normally see in other gyms and fitness centers.” And true enough, where else would you find pole dancing classes taught by The Polecats, the country’s premier pole dancing group? Zumba, the only Latin-inspired dance fitness program that is now being offered in over 125 countries, is also available. 360 Fitness Club also offers yoga, suspension training, kickboxing and running classes, with many more new classes to be introduced.

Whereas in most fitness centers, the members are left to do their exercises alone, 360 Fitness guarantees guided workouts aimed to also motivate and inspire rather than just mere demonstration of the exercises. Coaches are there to act as mentors, constantly challenging their members to push themselves. Other value-added programs to help clients reach their fitness goals are also in the works. “We’re working on developing a fitness diary for members to keep track of their calorie intake and expenditure, as well as providing special podcasts for them to learn about tips and how-to’s on exercise and nutrition,” shares Joana excitedly. “We’re really here as fitness partners of our members to help them get in the best shape possible. And that means providing different means of support all the way,” adds Christopher.

A year after the success of the first branch in Ortigas, 360 Fitness Club will launch their second branch in Makati this July. The pioneer club is already enjoying a growing number of clientele who have all bought into the philosophy of fitness that is indeed proving to be non-traditional, efficient and effective. More and more members are attesting to visible results both physically and mentally even in a period of just 4 to 6 weeks. Some have experienced weight loss even without an accompanying diet, others are proclaiming better productivity in their daily activities thanks to an increase in focus, strength and stamina.

Whatever your fitness goals are, 360 Fitness Club recognizes that it’s never easily achieved when done alone. As partners and experts in fitness, the club’s objective is to ensure that their members are constantly motivated, inspired and guided in order to reach these goals. Going beyond the physical exertion and making the entire experience a mental challenge and a way of life, 360 Fitness Club redefines what total fitness is all about and gives people that much-needed push to just keep on going.

“After my first workout I was totally spent on the circuit training. But it was a good feeling because I knew right away this was something that I could do. Then that’s when Coach Chappy Callanta asked me if I wanted to lose more weight on a special program he was setting up for members of the gym. Without hesitation, I said yes and he said that the program would be difficult because it involved a strict diet and training program. It was called the any goal program and it was 8 weeks to see who would lose the most weight.”

DJ Slick Rick, Magic 89.9

I’ll start off this story with a quote I’ve read a few years ago and I truly believe it. It’s from Cyril Connolly, “Imprisoned in every fat man, a thin one is wildly signaling to be let out.” That’s where my story begins. I’d have to say that I was a pretty athletic person in high school. I played a lot of sports year round like football, soccer, tennis, golf, baseball, and whatever else I could keep myself busy with. Because back in the states it was so easy to get a game going because you know your friends are always playing.

Fast forward to college here in the Philippines and I was still at my normal weight from high school and then I got my job at Magic 89.9. That’s when my weight began getting heavier and heavier. I can say it’s due to living the DJ lifestyle of just working 3 to 4 hours a day, 6 days a week. I started off in the evening shift and then made my way to doing the morning show and other time slots after that. Then add that having a girlfriend at times which caused me to add “the relationship weight.” I found myself in a lifestyle that made me lazy, made me want to eat, and sleep.

Oh, it sounds like the life every guy wants but when you are in it you don’t realize how much it affects your health and looks. I really didn’t care then. I was happy, that’s all I know. But little did I know that I was abusing my youth and there will be a payback.

It all caught up to me because I started getting this pain in the back of my neck. I had high blood and I was just in my 20′s. I always thought it happened to people in their 40’s or 50’s. I also had hypertension. The doctor gave me some pills to take but that got me scared. So I started to take my health more seriously and found different ways of losing weight.

I wanted to lose weight fast, don’t we all? So I started taking some diet pills and I lost a lot of weight drastically. I was skinny but people would say that I looked unhealthy. They say what you lose quickly you’ll eventually double if you stop the pills. That’s something that was always in the back of my mind. But I didn’t think much of it at the time so I kept taking the pills. Eventually the pills and the place where I got them shut down. I kept eating the way I did even though I stopped taking the pills and before I knew it, the weight was back… with a vengeance. That’s when our show Boys Night Out started.

I was the quintessential bachelor with a new show and working with my friends/brothers, Tony Toni and Sam YG. The show started to get more attention and we started to do more photo shoots to promote the show. I saw one of our photos and I couldn’t ignore how big I was compared to the other two. Then I thought to myself, this isn’t good because radio was all about imaging nowadays and you have to reflect the station and show you are in. I was twice the man I used to be, literally. I was almost up to 195 pounds.

That’s when I did a challenge versus Mojo Jojo via that Del Monte Fit ‘n Right Challenge to see who would lose the most weight in 2 months with proper diet and exercise. I was assigned a nutritionist, a gym, and a trainer. It was difficult at first but I got into the habit of working out. I started to like working out because it felt like there was something missing if I didn’t do it. I could see the difference in the next photo shoots and I was happy.

When my gym membership expired I got scared again because I knew if I didn’t get to the gym I’d gain weight again. I lost weight but I knew I could get down to a lower weight if I put my mind to it. To be honest with you, I kinda got bored going to the gym because it was the same routine that I was doing. That’s when the guys of 360 Fitness Club, Kim, Jopi, and Chappy came on our show to talk about the gym. They said it was a workout that took only 30 minutes out of your day and that’s all you needed. Hearing that, I was interested so I made my way there and started working out.

After my first workout I was totally spent on the circuit training. It was called the any goal program and it was 8 weeks to see who would lose the most weight.

I’m always up for a challenge and lo and behold, I was able to lose 11 pounds, 11 inches, and 2.7 inches on my waist. My diet consisted of beans, vegetables, chicken, and some other things along with the exercise routine. After the 8 weeks, I stayed on the diet and still do my exercising at 360. I can proudly say that I’m floating around 159-161 now. I’ve never felt lighter and stronger in my life. It also has helped me in my running and improving my time in every run that I do. I won in the challenge in more ways than one.

I won in my fight for my health and weight. I know that you have to really work at getting fit. There is no wonder drug that will get you skinny fast and keep you skinny. It all starts with you and your desire to break the mold and get out of your old self. I love it when people say to me, “Wow, you’ve lost so much weight!” It never gets old and it just keeps me going and gives me the strength and inspiration.

So my thin self has come out and now it’s time for me to shine with all of the bright lights! If I can do it, you can too. It’s never too late to get going and changing your life. Don’t wait till something happens to you. Make it a habit to eat right and exercise.

I highly recommend going to 360 Fitness Club located at the 13th floor Strata 100 in Ortigas, look for Coach Chappy and the rest of the crew there! They’ll change your life. They changed mine. They keep you in a mindset that you can always better yourself.

See you there!

What Mara does for living:

She has 3 jobs. Wow! She’s a freelance production manager for corporate AVPs, TVCs, and can even be an assistant director on the side. She’s also an online content writer for an email marketing company based in the US, where she writes about medical insurance, and other pretty boring stuff. But her most interesting job might be her third one—she’s a pole dancer and member of the Polecats, the hottest, premiere pole dancing group in the country. She’s busy with gigs at night and she teaches striptease every Saturdays at the Polecats studio. Being a trained dancer, she also has hiphop dance gigs from time to time. Beat that! (Check out the Polecats’ fb fan page for their class schedules.)

Her workouts before 360 Fitness Club:

Mara used to run, dance, play tennis, train in gymnastics, and she was a member of a big, traditional gym.

Her current workouts at 360 Fitness Club and why she chose to stick to them:

Mara does circuit training, TRX suspension training, posterior chain training at 360, on top of her training for pole. She chose those workouts because they make her feel more productive. Mara feels the effects faster, as she easily sees her endurance and strength progressing, which takes longer to see and feel with her other workouts like running. Since she finds it hard to work out alone, Mara likes the group setting and friendly, motivating atmosphere at the club. Oh, and posterior training helps her with pole. She quit her old gym because: 1) it was too expensive and 2) her average workout time takes around 3 hours! With her busy schedule, she needs something as fast as the 30-minute 360 circuit!

Mara and 360 Fitness Club’s Beach-ready Program:

She lost 8 pounds in 4 weeks after sticking to the program’s healthy food plan and 2x to 3x a week short, intense workouts. Plus, she’s more toned–even her abs are more defined! Wohoo! Check out her hot, pole dancing pic taken right after the program.

Great job Mara!

Describe your typical day.

I work as a Communication Trainer in a review center that requires me to teach from 9am-6pm and sometimes until 9pm daily. Since we have around 30 branches nationwide, I have lectures in most of them in Manila and also in the provinces. So, this erratic and unpredictable schedule has left me with little time to take care of myself or just to achieve some little personal goals such as keeping fit. Therefore, the idea of enrolling myself in a gym never entices me as I may not really benefit from it because of my schedule.

What are your previous workouts (before 360) and why did you stop?

Starting 4th grade, I have entered myself in several competitions (track and field, women’s basketball varsity, cheerleading, streetdancing) and my body has been used to extensive work outs. Although, I was always bothered by being a little underweight so last year, I tried to gain weight just to reach the right measurement for me. Unfortunately, I found my body lacking tone and strength but I didn’t want to join a gym because I never really believed in machines and staying in the gym the whole day. I also wasn’t a fan of dieting or cutting down on what I eat, but I just make sure I eat healthy fooditems. I thought I wouldn’t find the perfect remedy. Until, I found 360 Fitness Club!

What are your fitness goals?

Aside from maintaining a healthy lifestyle, I also wanted to bring tone to my muscles and develop my overall body strength. I fancy getting a little bit of “cuts” to flaunt my muscles and sporting some fierce abs (but just enough, suitable for girls).

What are the effects of the 360 circuit and programs to your fitness goals or lifestyle?

When I started my training in 360 Fitness Club in September 2010, I already committed to myself to follow a routine which is to do circuit training at least 3 times a week. If I cannot reach that weekly goal, then I compensate by attending 4-5x the following week. And yes, I not only feel the results but I also see them! From June 2010 when I joined the OCAI fun run, I weighed 122 lbs. looking flabby. But after committing to my 3x/week routine with the right food, I now weigh 108 lbs. Also, I feel stronger proven by winning a challenge in 360 or being able to properly execute all exercises without panting shortly after. I have a little bit of my desired “cuts” now on my arms, legs and tummy and that is a good start for me. And this is makes my fitness regimen all the more satisfying and that is by looking better with proper diet and exercise, no fad diets whatsoever! I feel happy and healthy! Check out my pics and you be the judge!
